Dilly
Material casts off weight and light becomes presence
Dilly was born from a gesture, delicate and instinctive, from a line taking shape in space.
Dilly is the name of a loved one. As often happens in my work this project enshrines an intimate and personal dimension, transforming material into memory, story and presence.
The vibrant design, slender, and vertical, evokesthe form of a female body: a presence at once delicate and strong, solid but at the same time ethereal. It is not a representation but a tension, suspended between balance and movement.
Polycarbonate is a seemingly neutral material but for me, using techniques developed over years, it becomes a fluid and organic weave imbued with light. The material casts off its rigidity and weight, transforming into a transparent structure, capable of holding and diffusing light energy.
Light is not simply emitted but seems to live in the material itself.
Switched on, Dilly is transformed into a pulsating presence that constantly dissolves and re-composes.
Switched off, it reveals its sculptural nature and the autonomous plasticity of gesture that generated it.
The central element of this project is the relationship between light and shadow. Shadow expands across the wall like an extension of the piece, amplifying its immaterial dimension. The object does not only occupy space but modifies it, transforms it, activates it.
Each Dilly lamp is made by hand in my Milan workshop.
No gesture will be repeated again and each pattern is different: no two pieces are alike. People who choose this piece receive a unique light sculpture.
I choose to work with Edra because I have always found a willingness to embrace uniqueness, not as an exception but as a value, and a capacity for developing ideas that go beyond traditional boundaries between art and design.
Dilly represents a new stage of this shared journey; another chapter of a collaboration founded on trust and freedom of expression.
Dilly is light but it is also body: gesture that becomes presence.
